Zacatecas migrants send almost a billion pesos in pensions to Zacatecas

Pensioners of The United States Social Security Administration (SSA) who reside in the entity contributed almost one billion pesos to the local economy during 2023.

Ivan Reyes MIllán , secretary of the Zacatecano Migrante (SEZAMI), reported that during the past year, more than 4 million dollars a month were paid in pension to Zacatecanos who worked in the American Union.

This figure added up to more than 800 million pesos that were dispersed in the local economy.

In Zacatecas, according to the state official, there are more than 5,600 people pensioned by the SSA, over 62 years old “and who worked at least 10 years in the American Union.”

Reyes MIllán added that SEZAMI maintains close collaboration with the Department of Federal Benefits (FBU) and its office at the Consulate of Guadalajara, so that Zacatecas who worked in the United States, and meet the requirements established by the US government, can collect their pension.

To this end, the FBU will carry out a series of interviews at the entity during the month of February; Previously, a registry will be made of the interested parties who must prove – with the Social Security number – their work stay in the United States, in addition to having their birth certificate and INE.

The figure for pension income from the SSA is added to the 1.8 billion dollars that, through remittances, entered the entity last year, according to the information provided by the Bank of Mexico.
